Map/mmi rotary knob removal

The clip below the rotary knob is loose can i remove the rotary knob and if so how and repair the clip below which currently feels sharp to touch were it joins ?

Its like a ring clip of some kind goes around the knob i think its just visible through the small gap below the knob but the ring seems split and its at that point that it feels sharp against your thumb whilst turning it.
