Benl982 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Hey, just purchased a 2009 Q5 and the front passenger door is stuck shut. Wont open from inside or out. Managed to get the door card off and pull the lock cable on the mechanism but it still won't open. Not quite sure what else I can do so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Magnet Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Welcome to the Audi Owners Club ! Good to have you onboard. Hello Ben, Thanks for being in touch. I’m sure you don’t mind us pointing out that this vehicle would not pass an MOT in this condition - so could be termed illegal to use. Did you buy it from a dealer? If so you should advise them of the issue and request that they arrange to rectify the problem. If you bought it from a private seller, then it must still comply with the advertised condition. In my experience VAG locks are more reliable than many other marques, so it would be difficult to diagnose without access to the vehicle. It sounds as if you will need to get this to a trusted independent as soon as possible - dependent on where/ who you bought it from financing the repair. Perhaps you could come back to us Ben. Kind regards, Gareth.
Benl982 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 Hi Gareth, it was purchased privately and at a good price as it has a couple of other issues that can wait for now. We was planning on getting it booked in somewhere but thought we would try here incase someone had previous experience with this issue. I've done lots of searches online and YouTube but can't find anything that can help.
Magnet Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Thanks Ben, I think the lack of on-line information is probably due to the VAG locks normally being reliable, so pessimistically you might struggle wherever you go - except with specialists - but let’s keep fingers crossed that someone on here might have had similar issues. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.
Shiralco Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 I have experienced my drivers door not opening from the outside and inside, but never both at the same time! On two occasions, in really cold weather the central locking opened all doors except the drivers door. This lasted a few weeks after which it miraculously worked again. Audi quoted me £400 to replace the lock, but I just wait it out. The inside failure was just a snapped cable, which was relatively easy to replace. A couple of obvious questions. Have you tried opening it with a key? The other thing to try is the MMI allows you to select what doors are opened by the central locking, front only or all. Try toggling it a few times to see if that changes anything. Sorry, but can't think of anything else to suggest. The bolts that secure the lock are only accessible with the door open, so it's a catch 22 situation. I wonder what an Audi dealer would do? It may be worth asking them, they may give you some ideas. 2
Benl982 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Thank you for the advise. I forgot to mention that the rear o/s door also won't open from the outside. Could there be a module that controls the locks somewhere which is playing up? Luckily the rear door opens from the inside.
ww1ww219141918 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Hi there Iam new to the site I have the same problem with both passengers side door this just happened one day it seemed to be handle on doors but I watched a a fella on internet and the cable on door handle can be adjusted you have to remove the small square on door handle and there is a cable with like a lead price at the end of the cable and it is pushed right forward on the handle you have to pull this lead piece out of the grove and place it further back in the handle grove and the door then opened Iam going to try this tomorrow it's were the cable is at its last position and being like this the door will not open but once lead price is moved it will engage again hope this helps
Benl982 Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 Just an update. Finally managed to open the door. We disconnected the wiring plug on the locking mechanism and then pulled the cable inside the door and it popped open. Swapped over the mechanism for an new one and now works perfectly inside and out. 2
