38k Gearbox Oil Service-2021 2.0 TDI Quattro-Price/Non Audi?

Hi - anyone had this completed recently, a few questions please:

1. How much did you pay?

2. Where was is it done?

3. What exactly did it entail (just oil or other items like filter, seal, drain plug etc, etc?

4. Anyone any information on non Audi garages that comply with the spec?

In a nutshell I know Audi is not cheap, but Jardine Motors Group Audi won't budge on £277.85 and have removed any price match offers; to be frank seems to be overly priced.

Viewpoints also welcomed either way please?

Hello ykes ( is that your name?).

In a nutshell - based on a similar service  for other marques, this seems a reasonable (very, even) price.

I guess you are able to check around other localish main dealers and independents and check whether it is indeed a reasonable charge or not. You could also check with gearbox specialists.
The only thing that confuses, is why you want this done at the low mileage of 38k.
No doubt specified in the service schedule-?? Double that mileage has often to taken as  the marker.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

I was looking at this the other day as I was working out what the costs were of a new car versus keeping the current A6.

The gearbox oil needs replacing at 40k according to the online service app.

Hi Gareth,

Well no, for some reason when it was set up it picked up part of my email address; it's Yan.

So I checked local Audi dealers all the same price or more, but same Audi group, they used to do price matching against local garages but now don't - so guess thats called go old price fixing...

I've called a specialist and they also queried the miles saying would expect to be twice that; so guess these gearbox's are flakey and thus an early oil change; waiting for them to come back with a price and what work that is; if it's just drain and replace oil thats crazy given car would be in for a main service and thus already being worked on at the same time.

Also in the Audi price they want £9.99 to dispose of the oil, which I've queried as was going in for the standard service at the same time > they can put it in a container and I'll take FOC to the local Council Recycling centre for that !

On similar marques do you happen to know the frequency of change?

Cheers

Indeed, I have the App also and noticed this, asked Audi why they were chasing me for a 38k change when it says 40k in their very own app that my car is linked to..... and they said its definitely 38k - hmmm wonder what would happen if it was not charged and failed at 39k for instance

Suppose we cannot expect to pay all this premium money and expect something as basic as this to be correct eh....

Have you enquired about a service plan? There’s 25% off at the moment, and it may be included in the price.

I had one for 2 years @ £500 and got the first and second oil service  and inspection service all included.

Thanks I have a service plan but this particular gearbox oil change is not included.

Turns out that a non dealership specialist was slightly more expensive but they included flushing.

Had it done at Audi for convenience of being done at the same time.

Hi

I am in that situation myself

Hi Guys

I purchased a 2015 A5 sportsback petrol 1786cc

It had 49881 on the clock..Immaculate condition I have only added 1500 miles to date

Service records and MOTs  back to 2018 all major places.

But I cant find a GEARBOX oil change in any of the service reports.

I rang AUDI  "get it in NOW 35K miles needed changed"

I contacted the Big dealer I purchased it fron and  a full service

was done at the 49800 point.

I mentioned that there was no sign of 50k gearbox oil change.

OOOPS we must of missed that. Bring it on 4 months before the next service and we will

well do it free with  the new new service.

Now is it 35 or 50k for a change/ At a max i will add maybe 4k (90 years old)

Do I need to bother a change

I am either 2k over or 17k over the correct mileage.

And all services have been on time according to its history

Where did PLUG OUT drain PLUG IN  go ???

Hello Johnny,

According to the original poster it should be changed at 38k. Yours has now covered over 50k so is overdue.
I’m not sure why the ‘..4 months before next service …’ bit. Any reason why they won’t do it now?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth.

Its just like talking to a brick wall.

But if it is 38K there 3 or 4 service places did not do it

And there sheets say full service

One MOT and service report is missing

Not sure how I could check who done that one

I wonder if its in that one

I maybe look at it I over 17k max I will but on is 3/4k.

If I took it in for the YEARs service it will have donr 2 k   GRRRR

I just mull on it.

I have had cars for circa 60 years the bigger the service centre

And we used the think the "bomb site guys were a set of rogues"

the bigger the company  the bigger the con it seems

I will report back gents

Thank you

Well it is keeping my old grey matter exercised

If it helps anyone this is all the Extra work needed according to the myAudi app with my car registered to it, note they could not explain why this says 40k for the gearbox oil change versus the Stealers 38k though….

Hi Guy.

I have just had "words" with the management  at the  garage regarding GB oil change

The AUDI A5 has done 1450 miles since its last full service Circa  £250 they did not do a 50K GB oil

As its one year older it must have a years service to keep the extended warranty.

So £183 to change oils and filters  after 1450 miles.

They will do the gearbox as well in that price.

I must admit i am tempted to take them some of my old Covid masks
