Hi, newbie here but looking for a bit of advice  / help if poss. I have an A3 2016 (SE) which developed a coolant leak a few weeks ago. The thermo housing and water pump was replaced by a local Indy and all was fine for a week or so. Then the radiator fan turned itself on within seconds of starting the engine whether cold or warm. Took it back to the same place and they've replaced the temp sensor due to the readings on their diagnostics. All good for a few days (approx 50miles) and the same fan problem (no coolant leaks). Same garage said it was an air block and all good to go (no extra charges). Now today, after another 50 miles or so I've got the same fan problem. I'm taking it back next Tues, but wondering if anyone has had the same problem or am I just having really bad luck ?

Hello Pete,

Welcome, and thanks for joining.
‘…..replaced the temp. sensor….’. I would be interested in what brand this replacement was, since there are unreliable replacements about. If it was a main dealer or Bosch part then it would be reasonable to discount this as a continued offender.
If an alternative aftermarket brand, then it would be interesting to know, so the new part can be eliminated or not.

Of course, trapped air maybe another cause, but I guess they would have thoroughly bled it the second time, if not the first.

Perhaps you would let us know how you get on Pete.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Not much of an update, but from the most recent diagnostics and clearing codes the radiator fan does not start as soon as engine starts up or kick in whilst driving. I've done approx 200 miles since the fan problem, but now my temp gauge takes a while to get to half way. On the motorway recently the gauge even dropped 2 bars whilst driving. Seems to stay at half way in everyday traffic, but takes a while to show (approx 25mins). I'm going to get the car back into the garage in Jan as fuel economy seems fine, but don't trust the temp gauge due to recent problems.

The symptoms sound similar to a failing thermostat possibly

Car (A3 2016 (SE) 6pd manual  has been running fine upto today when the fan kicked in again after a short motorway trip.

Following codes are showing

P1950 - engine coolant blower motor & engine coolant blower control module

P2181 - engine coolant blower motor

Am looking to replace the Engine coolant blower motor, but having a few probs finding the part number or availability. Can anyone advise a part number and a recommended place for parts ?

Thanks in advance

Hi the part number will be on the control box thats attached to the fan pack down between the fans, some you can change just the box others have the box built in to the fan pack so you have to buy the whole thing.
