Hello Audi Enthusiasts,

I'm reaching out to the community in the hopes that someone may have experienced a similar issue with their Audi A5 2015 model. Recently, I've been facing a perplexing problem with the Multi Media Interface (MMI) system in my 2015 Audi A5 B8, and despite visiting three different garages, the issue remains unresolved.

Here's a brief overview of the problem:

Symptoms:

  • Upon starting the car, the MMI system does not initiate as usual, unless you physically press the 'on' button.
  • After turning on, approximately 5-10 seconds later, the MMI system turns off on its own.

Background:

  • The problem surfaced after the car was stationary for three months while I was away on a trip, vehicle was parked in dry storage.
  • An auto electrician identified a leak in the left-hand compartment where the control unit is situated.
  • The leak was promptly fixed, and the auto electrician suggested replacing the control unit, speculating that it might have been damaged by moisture.

Actions Taken:

  • Replaced the control unit, the problem still persists
  • Checked and changed fuses related to the MMI system.
  • Tested the battery for any issues.
  • Verified and secured all electrical connections.

Despite these efforts, the problem persists.

I wanted to reach out to the Audi community to see if anyone has encountered a similar issue or has any insights into potential solutions. If you've experienced this problem or have knowledge about it, your advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance for your time and assistance. Your collective knowledge and experience could prove invaluable in resolving this frustrating MMI system malfunction.

You've done a good amount of diagnostic work already. Is it worth buying a second hand head unit to see if that resolved the problem?
