matthewA4quattro Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Just recently pulled my dad's old a4 out of the shed, where it sat for about 7 years. After getting it checked by a mechanic and passing an MOT it still seems to be quite down on power, now as I hadn't driven the car before I don't know what it used to be like before it went into the shed but it still seems quite sluggish. The issue is there's no response at all until about 2500rpm in which something kicks in and the car takes off. I do know there was an issue with the turbo and that was replaced so maybe it's that but I'm unsure. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Steve Q Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. Could be an issue with turbo, maf, injector etc.
matthewA4quattro Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Did a diagnostic check and didn't get any codes, I was going to try clean the maf sensor. Is this a good idea? Could I end up doing more harm than good?
Magnet Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Hello Mathew, Are you trying to run this on a mixture of 7 year old diesel by any chance? Kind regards, Gareth.
matthewA4quattro Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I never did drain the old fuel out, but it has been through a good few refuels and a new diesel filter. 1
matthewA4quattro Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Just to update, I've investigated possibly a broken egr and found a kinked vacuum line going to the egr so I'll try and figure that out and see if that's an issue. My asv seems to have given up as the when I turn off the car it shudders and I've checked that the asv doesn't move anymore. I have disconnected the pipe going into the egr to see if it was a blocked up with carbon and it looks to be fairly clean. Thanks for all the responses and if anyone knows any possible problems related to the egr please let me know.
