Oil Level Sensor

Good evening,

This is my first post on the forum after having my A4 for just over four years.

I’ve recently had some trouble with an oil, then coolant leak. I had the oil sump replaced and the water pump housing and associated parts done at a local but reputable garage. After what was a considerable amount of work completed (and at a large cost) I still had an oil and coolant leak. I have now taken the garage to an Audi Specialist who have identified the Oil Level Sensor as the cause of the oil leak, and incorrect replacement pipes in the coolant system as the cause for that leak.

We are now waiting on the Oil Level Sensor but there are none available in the UK…

Has anyone had any similar issues in the past? And if so, would anyone be able to share the experience or give advice on other work that may be required following these issues?

The car has covered 140,000 miles but has full service history, the last two years have been with the main dealer.

Many thanks in advance for any reply.

Welcome Matt and thanks for joining.
Sorry to hear about the issues.

Could you clarify whether the not -available- in-U.K. oil sensor is - not available from VAG dealers in the U.K., and/or not available from U.K. aftermarket sources?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Evening to you both. Thank you for taking the time to reply to the thread, it is genuinely appreciated.

The car has done quite a few miles and I’ve accepted the issues as wear and tear. It’s been absolutely perfect up to this point!

It is a VAG specialist garage that has told me the parts are out of stock in the UK. There may be aftermarket sources but they wouldn’t use them. Hopefully I hear something this week and I can get the car back on the road and get back to enjoying the car!

Many thanks for coming back Matt.
I can understand the VAG specialist wanting to fit genuine dealer parts, but if the vehicle is off the road (VOR) then fitting an aftermarket one - Hella for example- to return the car to the road, would seem to be an acceptable option, pending a dealer part coming back into stock.
Full choice on eBay - from too cheap to reasonable price for quality.

I think you will find there are numerous members on here who use reputable aftermarket parts to good effect.

Just a thought Matt.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi I had all that with my A6 which uses the same sensor, so I bought a Febi sensor from a local part shop, if you go through my posting history on the A6 C7 part of the forum I did a full write up on it and it was the same sensor with the VAG logos ground off, if you have a problem finding it ask Gareth and he is red hot at pointing the way.

Good morning all, I wanted to provide a quick update and give thanks to all who commented and helped me out over the last week.

I have managed to locate one of the last two VAG Oil Level Sensors in the country and it is now with the VAG Specialist garage to fit and test the car. All being well, I should collect the car this afternoon!

They have also fixed some bodged pipework to my cooling system (from the last garage I took the car to). I will be getting some pictures this afternoon that I will add to the forum. I’m now not convinced that I needed a new oil sump, or water pump housing but we are where we are. After an exhausting couple of months I should finally have my car back on the driveway ready for some much needed TLC from me.

Thank you for the replies, they were massively appreciated and helped keep faith that I’d get the car back without further issue.

Many thanks indeed for updating us Matt, and we look forward to hopefully hearing that all will be well once you have it back.

It’s reassuring to have favourable returned comments, and although we trust you will not need the forum again, please keep in touch for any advice you may need at any time.
Take care,

Kind regards,

Gareth.
