I have a 1985 Audi coupe Quattro which has been restored but has been SORN-ed and kept in my garage since before the pandemic.  I need to sell it, but think that I would like to get it back on the road and enjoy it for a while first.  I live near Scarborough and can’t find a garage willing to help me.  Any ideas how I can get my lovely old car back on the road?  Preferably without breaking the bank.

Hello Jean,

I would suggest you do a search for local classic car clubs around your area. If you cannot find a multi-make club, then it’s worth approaching say the local branch of the MG Owners, since they will have a larger club base.
You can then talk to one of the club officials and ask their advice on what local garages are ‘sympathetic’ to classic cars. You can then approach these and outline your recommissioning requirements.
Perhaps you could let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Thank you, Gareth and Clifford for those excellent suggestions.  I have tried local garages which have “older” mechanics on the basis that they’re more likely to be able to do work that doesn’t need a computer to tell them what to do and although they’ve seemed quite keen they simply don't come back to me.  I’m seriously thinking of selling it ‘as is’ but that would mean that I wouldn’t have chance to play. I loved driving that car, it brings back happy memories too.

Classic car clubs usually know of private enthusiasts who are capable of recommissioning.
Well worth investigating.
Kind regards,

Gareth.
