Magnet Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Where have you tried Caroline? Do you need the motor as well? Kind regards, Gareth.
Caz Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Hi Gareth, thanks for your reply, just the mechanism , drivers side, tried autoparts and some eBay sites
Magnet Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Thanks Caroline, I found quite a few options on eBay when I needed one for the A3 earlier this year. Are you seeing other models with some suppliers but not yours? If so, well worth contacting the seller re yours. I ended up buying one direct from Audi - around £140 ? Try, Audi Parts Direct at Cardiff ( part of Mon Motors - once Cardiff Audi). They were giving a bit of discount on some parts, but don’t expect much, since as I understand it, even trader discounts can be less than 10%. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Afterthought - try Autodoc.
Caz Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 Thanks Gareth, away this weekend, but I will give them a call when I am home.
Caz Posted September 1 Author Posted September 1 Hi Gareth Struggled Audi Garage wanted £300, so still looking nut seen a place who can recondition the faulty one
Magnet Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Thanks for the update Caroline. Re. reconditioning - what has broken with yours? Cable/cables? I guess you could look around for someone to make you a new cable, but beware, these cables control the window movement and stopping positions, and the precise length of the cable is critical. For a cable that has broken away in two pieces, how are you going to accurately determine the length? By removing the opposite one I guess, but…. You haven’t said whether you have checked on eBay - ? I would think yours would be less prolific due to being a convertible. Have you tried on-line car breaker link sites such as Partsfinder there are more) where you register your ‘want’? Kind regards, Gareth.
Caz Posted September 1 Author Posted September 1 Hi Gareth Thanks for your reply, I will check these sites out, convertible cable very rare, motor seems to be fine but struggle to get cable, they have asked me to remove the cable and send to them for repair and it will be marine stainless steel Cheers Caroline
Magnet Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Apologies for even more questions Caroline Audi -£300 - supply and fit or supply only. It’s not really about making a new one - even in impressive marine grade stainless, but as said, how is anyone going to ensure that the length is going to as accurate as it needs to be - as already said. If you are going to go down that route then be repaired to dismantle the passenger side one to use as a pattern. I believe that when you buy the replacement ‘mechanism’ it came complete with some metal framework and not just the cable - unless the convertible is different. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. who are ‘they ‘ that you refer to?
