Hi guys,

I have a question after opening the oil cap right after starting the engine and after a while its still the same, a lot of smoke comes out, leaving traces of exhaust/oil. I've heard opinions that this is normal for this car, which I believe is complete nonsense and rather suggests a problem with the oil breather system, or worse, a damaged head gasket. Could you please let me know if this is normal or if it indicates more serious engine issues? I’m attaching a video showing the smoke.

Welcome Michael,

Looks characteristic of blowing passed the pistons.
Mileage, history, how long has it been doing this?
Possible crankcase ventilation issue??
Kind regards,

Gareth.

hello, hello 🙂

it might be like that, because the guy who sold the audi tt said it was normal for this model and they all have it, which I disagreed with, so he was talking bullshit and there is something wrong

thanks

Even though you disagreed, you still bought it Michael!
Mileage and service history?
Private or dealer?

Private guy and I didn't notice it earlier... only after a few days during a more detailed inspection, but according to the law, if he concealed the defect, I can still return it.

thanks a lot

Hello Michal, ( sorry, I’ve been spelling you name the U.K. way)

So it seems you bought it, and only later discovered this, and then I guess you contacted the seller about your concern-? It’s very difficult for us to get the full time-line situation without asking more questions.
Anyway - possible redress.
This will strictly depend on the actual wording of the advertisement. That’s why sellers often keep descriptions vague, such as ‘starts, drives, stops’ etc.

We may be able to advise you further if you let us have a transcript of the advert.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

No worries, it's not a problem at all 😜

Yes, the car was described as accident-free and without any faults. Thank you very much for all your help so far. If I can't manage it on my own, I'll definitely come back. Once again, thanks a lot 🙂

Thanks again Michal,

Did it actually say ‘without any faults’ in the advert, or didn’t it list any faults?
You may find the CAB could be of help to you.
Kind regards,

Gareth.
