Hi,

I have recently purchased a Audi A3 2.0 tdi Sport 2018 - 26K

When turning at low speed I hear a knocking/clicking sound when turning the steering wheel (happens both ways) is not loud but definitely there - can't seem to hear the noise when driving normally only at slow speed, everything feels OK.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Hi it could be the outer CV joints going a bit dry, might be wort doing a quick visual on the outer boots as more often than not they split, if not remove the boot from the joint [Big end] and repack with grease, had terrible problems with my A6 outer boots even buying new OE boots at £60 a pop did not cure this, the boots are made of some sort of marshmallow plastic but the killer was the clear grease they used from about 2015 it just dries out unlike Molybednum Disulphide grease which lasts for years.

Hi dont worry about the milage, I had to buy two aftermarket driveshafts which started clicking after six months or 10k eventually bough two driveshafts for £50 each from an online breakers re greased them and never had anymore trouble bearing in mind the two breaker units were from an A5 that was six years older than my car but the boots were a completely different material, more like rubber, I then researched other Audi owners on our cab fleet eight of them were battling with the same problem .

Hi,

Weather was awful this weekend so haven't been able to get under the car however, I am pretty convinced it is the CV joints seems t be getting worse and is noisy when pulling away/on bumpy roads.

Car is under warranty (non-Audi dealership) so am going to push for a fix, the brakes are als a bit noisy which looks like rear brake pads, so much for the 85 point check...

Thanks

Hi,

Still haven't resolved this as the supplying dealer are ridiculously slow booking in the car, have been ignoring my emails and phone calls (get though to reception and they are unavailable and will call back) - went down there at the weekend end and was again promised a call back but nothing yet.

If I haven't got a response by end of the week am going to escalate......I don't think the PDI was carried out as the rear brake pads are very low, is making me worry about the service and MOT too...

Thanks

Those of a kindly disposition might think your dealer is snowed under with too much work to attend to your minor faults. Those of a more cynical nature, such as me, might suspect him of prevaricating in the hope that you will give up until after the guarantee runs out.

I reckon you're right we had the same with my sons car (golf mk6 1.6 tdi) basically there was a huge wait to be seen by the service department, no courtesy cars available ever (which won't work as he has just started a new job and can't take time off), appointments which were cancelled etc etc etc...

Most of these dealers are not interested TBH once they have your money....you are on your own

Main dealers aren't much better, I have had some terrible service from them too..

So what do you intend to do about it? In your position I would write a letter or email of complaint explaining the fault and demanding it be repaired. Do not use phone calls or text messages for that purpose. You need evidence that can be produced in court should it ever get to that stage.

Finally getting some traction on this, usual excuses of IT issues with Phone/Email car is being booked in for investigation, they also have the missing SD Card for the SatNav so can get that sorted too...

Have finally got access to the Aftersales manager who has agreed to get the car back in a take a look - waiting for a book in date as I'll need a courtesy car while mine is in.

Car booked in for next Friday - noise getting worse - rear brake pads look very low to me too and should have been picked up on the PDI/MOT , they are going to look at both....oh and have the missing SD Card for the Satnav.
