The_Master Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Hi, I have recently purchased a Audi A3 2.0 tdi Sport 2018 - 26K When turning at low speed I hear a knocking/clicking sound when turning the steering wheel (happens both ways) is not loud but definitely there - can't seem to hear the noise when driving normally only at slow speed, everything feels OK. Any ideas please? Thanks

Any ideas please? Thanks Hi it could be the outer CV joints going a bit dry, might be wort doing a quick visual on the outer boots as more often than not they split, if not remove the boot from the joint [Big end] and repack with grease, had terrible problems with my A6 outer boots even buying new OE boots at £60 a pop did not cure this, the boots are made of some sort of marshmallow plastic but the killer was the clear grease they used from about 2015 it just dries out unlike Molybednum Disulphide grease which lasts for years. Steve.
The_Master Posted October 14 Author Posted October 14 Thanks Steve - will get under the car and take a look, is very strange as car is quite low mileage...

Hi dont worry about the milage, I had to buy two aftermarket driveshafts which started clicking after six months or 10k eventually bough two driveshafts for £50 each from an online breakers re greased them and never had anymore trouble bearing in mind the two breaker units were from an A5 that was six years older than my car but the boots were a completely different material, more like rubber, I then researched other Audi owners on our cab fleet eight of them were battling with the same problem . The_Master Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 Hi, Weather was awful this weekend so haven't been able to get under the car however, I am pretty convinced it is the CV joints seems t be getting worse and is noisy when pulling away/on bumpy roads. Car is under warranty (non-Audi dealership) so am going to push for a fix, the brakes are als a bit noisy which looks like rear brake pads, so much for the 85 point check... Thanks
The_Master Posted October 29 Author Posted October 29 Hi, Still haven't resolved this as the supplying dealer are ridiculously slow booking in the car, have been ignoring my emails and phone calls (get though to reception and they are unavailable and will call back) - went down there at the weekend end and was again promised a call back but nothing yet. If I haven't got a response by end of the week am going to escalate......I don't think the PDI was carried out as the rear brake pads are very low, is making me worry about the service and MOT too... Thanks The_Master
cliffcoggin Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Those of a kindly disposition might think your dealer is snowed under with too much work to attend to your minor faults. Those of a more cynical nature, such as me, might suspect him of prevaricating in the hope that you will give up until after the guarantee runs out. 2
The_Master Posted October 30 Author Posted October 30 I reckon you're right we had the same with my sons car (golf mk6 1.6 tdi) basically there was a huge wait to be seen by the service department, no courtesy cars available ever (which won't work as he has just started a new job and can't take time off), appointments which were cancelled etc etc etc... Most of these dealers are not interested TBH once they have your money....you are on your own Main dealers aren't much better, I have had some terrible service from them too..
cliffcoggin Posted October 30 Posted October 30 So what do you intend to do about it? In your position I would write a letter or email of complaint explaining the fault and demanding it be repaired. Do not use phone calls or text messages for that purpose. You need evidence that can be produced in court should it ever get to that stage. 1
The_Master Posted November 8 Author Posted November 8 Finally getting some traction on this, usual excuses of IT issues with Phone/Email car is being booked in for investigation, they also have the missing SD Card for the SatNav so can get that sorted too... 1
The_Master Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 Have finally got access to the Aftersales manager who has agreed to get the car back in a take a look - waiting for a book in date as I'll need a courtesy car while mine is in. 1
cliffcoggin Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Well it's progress of a sort. I hope it won't be long until the appointment.
The_Master Posted November 15 Author Posted November 15 Basically I haven't heard anything , which is typical, now going to call to press the point....
The_Master Posted November 17 Author Posted November 17 Car booked in for next Friday - noise getting worse - rear brake pads look very low to me too and should have been picked up on the PDI/MOT , they are going to look at both....oh and have the missing SD Card for the Satnav. 1
The_Master Posted November 22 Author Posted November 22 Car going in today, typically during the cold weather recently the noise has disappeared, would be typical if they can't reproduce the noise...
The_Master Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Got an email from the Head of Aftersales after chasing my car, apparently they can't find a fault (what a surprise) - they claim they have been trying to call and email me however I have no missed calls, voicemails or emails (have checked spam and quarantine - I am an IT admin) Just useless...... 1
cliffcoggin Posted December 4 Posted December 4 If you still have the noise Spenser I suggest you take it to an independent VAG specialist to be assessed, and simultaneously inform the car vendor in writing that he may face a claim against him for any repair. It seems from reports on this forum that dealers are increasingly averse to admitting to, and rectifying, faults on the cars they have sold. I guess squeezed margins are leading them to cut corners and become more deceitful if that is at all possble.
The_Master Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Will do - luckily I recently started a new job and have a VAG specialist 5 minutes walk away...knew the supplying dealer would do this....they seem stunningly disorganised, and I have been forced to drive around in a Kia Picanto 1.0 which uses 50% more fuel than the A3 and has crippled by back.....
