RussF99 Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Hi, I have a 2022 A3 plug in hybrid. I have been charging with the provided cable to a 3 pin plug in the uk but the cable is now not working. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do about it? Interested to know whether you leave it out because it only has an IP55 rating. Thanks.
Steve Q Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Ha e you managed to confirm it's the cable and not a fault with the car?
Magnet Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Not wanting to highjack the thread, but have you checked the fuse in the plug - plugs and fuses used for these obviously take an abnormally high current? If fuse tests OK, then test for continuity from the 3 pin plug end of the lead to the plug that plugs into the car. If you don’t have a test meter, or are uncertain about how to use it, it’s much safer to nip the cable around to an electrician to test it for you. Kind regards, Gareth. 1
Steve Q Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Gareth does raise a good point and to add, have you checked the plug socket in/on the house that you use?
RussF99 Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Definitely the cable. I borrowed next doors and it then charged fine. I also changed the fuse and the plug but that didn’t seem to do it.
RussF99 Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Do others leave the cables outside? Seems a bit of a faff to bring it in when it rains.
Magnet Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Thanks Russell, Apologies, if I had known that I wouldn’t have made the suggestions I did. So there is obviously some sort of discontinuity in your cable, and it will need to be replaced. Leaving it exposed to the elements? Doesn’t sound to be best practice. Any good reason for doing that, other than a bit of inconvenience? Kind regards, Gareth.
RussF99 Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Inconvenience mainly. Eg. At night, the common time to charge, it often rains. Just wondered what others do.
cliffcoggin Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Do you fit the rubber cap on the cable when it is not in use?
RussF99 Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Yes but the box was resting on the ground when it broke, normally it is hanging up. Don’t worry I have a call out with my Audi dealer. Thank you for your thoughts.
