I have recently had a warning light for coolant leak.

Having topped it up I the had the emission light come on.

after a few hours that light went out.

What concerns me is the loss of water, the car is 2016 Q5 with 70,000 miles

Welcome Nigel,

You will need to quantify how much coolant is being used in how many miles.
Probably stating the obvious, but top up to the max mark when cold, note mileage, check daily, and say top up again after one week - or less if loss is substantial.
Can you see any evidence of pink coolant deposits anywhere, any evidence of drips on driveway, any signs of water emulsion in the oil?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hello Nigel,

It seems you have posted, and not responded to the request for further information.
No doubt you have got good reason, but perhaps you would be kind enough to come back to us.

Hi folks. Just an inform and a question. A few weeks ago I lost coolant and was alerted via a light on dash. Topped up with Audi product and no further issues. Took car in for service at local Audi, asked them to look at issue and the visual health check vid showed signs of leakage. So they have replaced water pump I believe but not cam belt. (pick up car today) Done under Extended Warranty - phew !  Seems water pumps are prone to go on some Audi models and early too - this is a from new 5 year old Q5 with 33k on the clock. I asked should they also replace cam belt while doing pump and advised unless there was damage their advisories are now something like 100k miles. Any thoughts on my experience here and thoughts on extending the Warranty ?  Thanks

Welcome Barry,

Well worth doing a search on here under Timing belts and/or Cambelts. Audi have changed their change intervals. You will need to read, and form your own opinion and decision.
I wouldn’t renew a water pump and refit the old belt - daft for the cost of the belt, but…. assuming it’s belt driven.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Many thanks Gareth and will do the search as you advise. It will be interesting to see what the garage has actually done as I would have replaced the belt too while they were doing the pump.

Possibly haven’t replaced it Barry, because Audi are paying!

Thanks Gareth but curiously I had this conversation a day before asking them about coverage under the Warranty ?

Undoubtedly. It is both stupid and mean not to change the belt while it is accessible.

Agreed Cliff. Car now home and happy. Not charged for water pump but incomplete paperwork too - no printed Audi service record or Health Check sheets and not record not online (yet) either. Friday night pick ups are a nightmare as various owners pick up and it’s pass the remote card reader around. I will go back to the dealer next week to ask for what’s been done and the complete paperwork.

Thanks Barry,

Might, just might find that the belt was indeed changed contrary to what you were told. The computerised record should be the definitive statement.
Kind regards,

Gareth.
