Guest Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Hi, I purchased my first ever audi yesterday in the form of a 1997 Audi A3 1.8 SE. Took it on a test drive and all seemed fine and nothing untoward, no frothing at the coolant and no loss of liquid from the RAD but when i took it on a jaunt to london from home (about 200 miles) it started to smoke white smoke and upon inspection it appeared that the rad fan was not spinning so i checked the engine temp guage and it was at 60 (minimum) - any ideas why this may be, and if it is a simple/difficult, cheap/expensive issue to fix? many thanks for replies and, sorry to be on the ask for advise so soon after joining! Kieren
mark Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 H Kieren, first thing to check is that the fan blades can spin freely and aren't jammed or seized. I would also check the thermostat is operating correctly.
