moon_fury Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Recently purchased a 2012 audi A3 8p, and upon inspection noticed the rain sensor hanging down by the mirror. I assumed an easy fix, get a new gel pad, re-stick to windshield. But after removing the mirror, the spot where the sensor is supposed to go has a metal knob that doesn't allow it to fit. It appears to have the correct trim, and the black circle on the windshield etc, which is confusing. Does it mean that this is possibly a wrong windshield? Maybe for a car that doesn't have the sensor? I'm tempted to just stick it off to the side, but it will look tacky/incomplete. Hopefully that makes sense, please see pics.
cliffcoggin Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 My guess is that the mirror has been changed for a housing not designed for the rain sensor. 1
KantusJack Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Hi Have you got a picture of the windsheld outside the car??? It can be very usefull to compare with others cars
moon_fury Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 Sorry for not replying, I didn't realize there was recent activity. Update I purchased new gel pads on Amazon and mounted the sensor just over to the side of the designed mounting spot. It's been working great, but again doesn't look the best. I don't have a picture of the windshield from the outside, but I will take one ASAP for reference. Strangely it does have the black surround with the circle for the sensor, but right in that circle is where the knot is mounted to the glass. I'm guessing whoever replaced the glass previously did it incorrectly.
Steve Q Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Glad it's working even if it looks unsightly.
