Hi

Just got another recall on the GT. 931B. Some thing to do with the high voltage battery.

It is an insulation check. Booked for the 12th.

The possibilty of an insulation fault on a 400 volt battery is worrying. I hope all is well.

That is a worry. Hopefully they rectify this quickly

I do some times wonder if I am sitting on a 440v time bomb. But, at 81 if you got to go, it's nice to be on top of the one you love.

As a driver of an electric pocket rocket I agree completely, yet most drivers of petrol cars are happy to sit on 12 gallon tanks of explosive fuel without a care in the world.

Yet another recall. Changed the name the car now. It is a Audi Recall GT. Going in December 9th for 8 days this time. Battery charge checks. It seems they need to discharge the battery on day one and then slowly recharge. This cycle has to be done more than once, therefore the long stay in the garage.

That is usually done to balance the charge between all the cells, so I guess Audi is suspicious about some of them. Do you often charge the battery at the maximum rate? That practice increases the chances of battery damage. (Note my careful use of the words "increases" and "chances". There are few certainties in the field of battery charging.)

Very rarely do I charge away from home. I think I have only done it once. I never charge beyond 80% as recommended by Audi. My OHME home charger charges somewhere between 6.5 and 7.4 KW. depending on the house load. In the 18 months I have had the car I have only done 4400 miles.

Hate to throw it out there but are they worried about the risk of fire I wonder?

Thanks for that Steve. But I have that covered. My granddaughter works for Formula 1 hospitality, and she has got me some fire proof underwear and F1 racing suit. The only thing is I feel a bit of a prat when I go into Sainsburys.

I don't think so Steve. Tony is charging the car very conservatively so there should be no cell imbalance, but perhaps the battery manufacturer or the control circuit manufacturer, which will both very likely be Chinese, has detected some anomalies in their records. I am only speculating here, so it would be useful to know what the reason really is.

I will try to find out. Probably over kill by Audi. Anyway back on the bus after the 9th December.

That's a good point. I'm probably just over thinking it. Hopefully it's nothing major.

Got the car back today. After it's last recall. So they had the car for 8 days this time. In 6 weeks I have only clocked 207 miles. I tried to find out what they actually did. It was a battery module check, where they have to monitor the traction battery over a number of days. Mine passed OK. I wonder how long before I get another recall?
