Adrian96 Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Hi guys, I hope that someone here will be able to help me identify the problem. I’ve an Audi A5 2013 3.0 diesel. The engine runs smoothly however a knocking sound started from inside the engine. I’ve stopped driving it and the cars at the mechanic. We’ve tested the fuel pump and that’s 100% also no metal parts in the oil filter. I’ve attached a video of the sound. Has anyone here come across this issue ? We are still yet to check the chain. Steve Q Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Could it be a damaged crank, or bearings etc? What does the mechanic think? Only way you'll know it dismantling the engine. But from the sounds of it, it could be a big bill.
cliffcoggin Posted November 15 Posted November 15 It sounds like chain slap. At twice per second or 120 per minute it is too slow for the crank and cam shafts.
cliffcoggin Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Any progress in solving this Adrian?
Adrian96 Posted Tuesday at 10:22 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 10:22 PM Work in progress… engine and gearbox has been taken out. Timing chain looks to be 100%. Mechanic is steering towards an oil pump. There’s oil in one of the injectors.. waiting for further updates. This is as far as we got so far. 1
