audilover81 Posted Sunday at 04:06 PM Posted Sunday at 04:06 PM (edited) Hi everyone!! I will pick up my Audi A6 tomorrow, and the wheels don't look right. I want to try to get everything right. I have a learning disability, so I apologise if my message makes no sense. So I'm wondering if anyone can confirm if those that I'll send with this post, are the right ones? also is there anything I should be aware of with these? The previous owner is providing various replacement mechanical items with the sale and has also provided 2 x replacement tyres as the two on the front are almost bald. I have a friend who advised that I should join the Audi Owners Club and see what advice I can get as it will be from fellow Audi owners. I'd like to get some black ones like the ones in the second picture. I hope the picture helps. Thanks in advance from a delighted returning audi owner (Jay) Edited Sunday at 04:07 PM by audilover81
Steve Q Posted Sunday at 06:46 PM Posted Sunday at 06:46 PM Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂 Have you watched YouTube buyers guides. Which set of wheels are you referring too, as there's the ones on the car and ones not on the car. Check the service history of the vehicle. Has it had a Cambelt and water pump change? If it's an automatic has the gearbox oil been changed on time.
audilover81 Posted Sunday at 07:46 PM Author Posted Sunday at 07:46 PM It's a diesel and apparently the cambelt was changed recently and the water pump is not far from needing changing and it will come with a replacement apparently. Have been advised also to look for cream on the oil dipstick so I'm assuming that's some type of white stuff when you pull it out and rub it on a tissue or something? I looked at the buyers guide but I think a lot of those or for cars that were running this one doesn't run due to the battery being dead. Sorry that the photos were supposed to be of the ones on the car other ones that I've looked online I don't think they're the ones for that car and the ones on the floor are the ones that I want if people think they would look good? I've looked at the registration and the MOT history nothing too bad I don't think put it mention the registration plate deteriorated and the brake hose on the offside is chafed so I'm guessing that means it's broken or something? I think it might be the triptronic one because of the stuff on the center console apparently that is what you use to control the computer system? It's a really big dial like I saw it on a BMW once. I was trying to share a photo but it wasn't working of the car the stereo doesn't look like any stereo that I've seen before in an Audi A3 Google tells me they are all the same on Audi cars but this one's different sorry if the question seems stupid I just want to make sure that I understand things thank you for messaging me back I appreciate it good to get the help
Steve Q Posted Sunday at 08:01 PM Posted Sunday at 08:01 PM First warning flag for me, why has the cambelt been changed and not water pump at the same time? They should be chuffed together. Mayo you'll notice it when you unscrew the oil cap. That's a manual gearbox so less to go wrong. Check service history it's been serviced. What is the service history like? Full, part of non. Issues with the infotainment system are documented. The dial like on a BMW does control the infotainment system.
audilover81 Posted Monday at 07:41 PM Author Posted Monday at 07:41 PM (edited) Ok I really appreciate the comments and the advice latest from Steve warning lights at the moment they are the oil pressure previous owner told me no oil in car but it did dipstick and oil in car did dipstick again when got it home but there is plenty of oil plenty of fluid constance car moves car is very big did not realise how big this car is and Powerful was told no fuel in car but there is half a tank was also a told car is clean but there are cigarette butts in all of the ashtrays just little things that I want to sort out also how lots and lots of parts in the car boot but do not understand what they are or what they are for previous owner has advised they are parts that I bought that I did not need. Regarding the service history he said there is some but it's all online he hasn't got the documentation only the V5C. I've had look online at some of the service history. I looked at the recent five that I could see. A few things needed doing some of them were done some of them were not two tyres were on their way out so replacements have been given with the car as well as a whole heap of parts that I don't understand but as mentioned the guy said I bought them but they don't fit so I bought another one it didn't arrive then I bought another one there is all sorts of things in the back I don't understand half of what they are everything seems to be complete in the engine bay albeiting a good clean up cambit was changed head gasket is fine oil and all the coolants and fluids are okay half a tank of petrol despite being told nothing in there maybe it's not getting through I don't know, but it starts and goes and it stops the brakes have a lot of play in them so I need to find out how to sort that because apparently they were changed recently maybe it's the brake pads I don't know. Recover driver is a personal friend and has advised, this is quite powerful car then fixed he is very surprised that I chose such a big car... He says Jason you can sell these things for some money - some of them are brand new they are really expensive parts some of them he has also advised speak to somebody from audi owners club see if you can get advice if you need these parts or if you can get someone to come out to describe and diagnose what is needed and what to get rid of. Have been explained by previous owner that key works to unlock car boot and start car but did not tell me the key button logos are worn out so I don't know what does what. I've posted pictures of my new purchase on here. Thanks again for the continued advice and support it's good to know that I'm getting the advice on here thank you so much to everyone PS I hope that I hope that the photos will do the car justice I know it's far from perfect. Steve Q Posted Monday at 09:32 PM Posted Monday at 09:32 PM Wowsers. So basically it's not come with service history. Sounds like the previous owner is dishonest. If there's no proof of service history then I'd be getting a major service and gearbox service asap. Oil warning light could just be the oil pressure sensor. I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up.
audilover81 Posted Tuesday at 01:33 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:33 PM Ok thank you I'm going to put my OBD reader in the car and see what comes up I'm also going to take pictures of all the things in the boot of the car to try and work out what is what there are very YouTube videos I can watch to help me to install it which I will...
Magnet Posted Tuesday at 02:13 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:13 PM Hello Jason, Um! Where did you see this car advertised, was it a private sale ( if so,how long had the seller owned it) or a motor trader sale, and what was the advert. wording? Kind regards, Gareth.
audilover81 Posted Tuesday at 07:50 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 07:50 PM The guy said he has had it for a short time he was Romanian he told me it's forgot to give the car underside protection cover. so he's going to bring that over next week the wedding was okay but it was very brief and I had to go over there and asked lots of questions how long did you have the car he's the cam belt been changed these are all the questions that my friend has told me I have to ask I have to put my hands on the side of the car and slide my hand across to see if I can feel any dents I could not feel this then I have to look at the brakes then I have to look inside the car press the buttons make sure it's working but I was told I cannot trust the button in the middle of the center console because that is to set the car up and I don't know how to do that somebody's gonna come at weekend to help me to set things up I've ask one of my friends to come over to help me decide what to do with the parts I've got so many things I don't know what they are I've tried to look on the internet it's so confusing I'm gonna try to send some pictures with this comment somebody on here maybe there can help me to find it I think one of them is the air filter I've tried to put it back on but there is no room to put it back on so I don't know how it came out maybe I can take a video from YouTube and take the front of the car off to put it back on I don't know if I can do it but I will try I've looked at some YouTube videos I think it's not too difficult as long as I've got the screwdrivers and the spanners and things maybe I can try to learn. I thought it was a little bit strange because why do you want to tell me I've got two new tyres when I buy the car? And why is there so many parts but I've decided we're talking to one of my friends that the parts are replacements for the car some of these parts are brand new I don't know what they are I cannot read the labels because they're in a different language but I was share the pictures on here so I can try to help to get some information about what they are I've been advised that maybe I can sell them but I have to know what they are.... I'm sorry if that makes no sense I'm gonna send the pictures with this post now okay. If it's worked out perfectly then the last picture will be the under the engine cover that he said I'm sorry I did not sell it with the car I will bring it next week. I was messaging him asking have you got some service history for the car he said I'm sorry I cannot I only had it for a short time he said he got it from a garage from another Romanian guy and he's gonna ask for the service history if it can get it and I've only got limited services history when I do registration check using my app to check the history and everything what I can find about the car. If it's worked out perfectly then the second one I don't know what that is but it was very heavy and it landed on my hands and there was a some not very nice words coming out it when I did this I think it's something to do with the turbocharger or something.... It is very very heavy. There was lots more pictures of other things on there some small things in a small box and there's a big bag of screws and other things I think that's to put the other parts together back on the car I don't know....
cliffcoggin Posted Tuesday at 09:36 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:36 PM Jason. May I try to summarise your posts to see if I have understood correctly? 1/ You have bought a defective car. 2/ The car is full of of unidentified parts that may or may not fit it. 3/ The car has no proper service history. 4/ The seller claims to be Romanian despite the address label in your picture being in Lithuania. 5/ You have no tools or knowledge with which to fix the car. Please correct me if I am wrong so that an accurate picture can be presented. I'd appreciate brief yes or no answers to each point for clarity.
Magnet Posted Tuesday at 10:00 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:00 PM Hello Jason, Thanks for all the information, but a lot of it is unnecessary. Without being unkind, I really don’t think you should have been left to view and buy this car without a knowledgeable person being with you. Buying from any private individual who hasn’t had the car long is a recipe for potential disaster. Did you see the full V5 before you bought it, and was it registered to the address where you bought it from? Can I ask what mileage it has covered and how much you paid for it? Did you pay in cash, or by bank transfer? Are you sure the parts were the property of the seller? Did the seller give you a receipt for the money you paid for the car? Kind regards, Gareth.
Steve Q Posted Wednesday at 05:54 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:54 AM If you have no paperwork to show it's had work done then there's a good chance it hasn't had the work done. Also I've just sent you a private message.
