Ivo Artis Posted Thursday at 10:35 PM Posted Thursday at 10:35 PM Hello all. My name is Ivo and I have an Audi A1 1.4tfsi sport back. Whenever I start it it doesn’t seem to want to do a cold start. Just starts up and goes to normal idle instead of keeping revs lil high for a minute like it used to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Magnet Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Welcome Ivo, Are you saying it is difficult to start from cold? If so, does the starter turn the engine over enthusiastically? I would not be too concerned about a lack of increase in revs at cold start, until we have answers to the above. When was the car last serviced? Kind regards, Gareth.
Ivo Artis Posted Friday at 06:45 PM Author Posted Friday at 06:45 PM Thank you Gareth, No the car starts up without an issue, and no issues from starter. It just doesn’t do the normal “cold start”.

Hi most modern engines post 2009 wont have a pre set cold start enrichment process as the ECU looks after all that so the emissions are kept lower, you might notice that the idle revs are about 100rpm higher in really cold weather, it doesn't need it as the vehicles are all fitted with close coupled catalytic converters that heat to running temp in less than a minute and over enrichment kills the cat in record time. Steve.
Ivo Artis Posted Friday at 07:50 PM Author Posted Friday at 07:50 PM Thanks Stevey. When I first got the car it would do a cold start all the time. That’s why I’m enquiring about why it isn’t doing them anymore
Magnet Posted Saturday at 09:58 AM Posted Saturday at 09:58 AM Thanks Ivo, Sorry, but I’m getting a bit lost on your interpretation of ‘Cold start’ - and your dissatisfaction with it - whatever ‘it’ is. Kind regards, Gareth.
cliffcoggin Posted Saturday at 11:37 AM Posted Saturday at 11:37 AM Ivo. What you call a normal cold start, when the engine idles well above its warm speed, is actually abnormal. As Stevey Y explained your engine is cold starting normally, and you should not be concerned about it providing it starts easily and idles evenly without any intervention from you. 1
