LG-58 Posted November 22 Posted November 22 My Audi was serviced at a main dealer when i drove the car home the dash cam had been disconnected. I was told this was a strict policy and was not negotiable in any way Do people have any strong views on this
cliffcoggin Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I suppose there might be privacy issues if the possibility exists of you filming or even publishing names and faces of staff at work. Which is very convenient for the dealer because you also can not see what is done or not done to your car. 2
Magnet Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Welcome Leighton from the Homeland, I think Cliff has a fair point, otherwise it would be difficult to justify why you would want it to be connected while in their workshop - unless you don’t trust them. If that is the case, then you would be better off searching for an alternative trusted garage - such as an independent. I think many people would need some convincing about the benefit of having a 6 year old car serviced at a main dealer, unless you have some out of manufacturer’ warranty that ties you into doing that. Kind regards, Gareth. 2
Magnet Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Wondered what views you have Leighton, and how they compare with the responses you have. Kind regards, Gareth.
Magnet Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Can see you have revisited the forum. Any update for us Leighton?

People don't seem to have strong views, I agree main dealers don't seem to be any use beyond three years ( you live and learn there is a privacy issue but I feel main dealers should have a policy on dash cams and they should publish this but they have no right to disconnect my dash cam without my permission ,if they cover it or switch it off and switch it back on that would be different Also they publish their customer service objectives and then the staff treat you with such contempt .
cliffcoggin Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I agree they should have warned you in advance, and also reconnected the dashcam once the work was complete. For comparison, would you be happy to have a tradesman in your house filming his work if there was a chance he would publish the video on Youtube or Facebook etc?
Magnet Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I think the two responses to date do not concur with your views Leighton, so from the two responses on here I cannot agree with your statement ‘..people don’t seem to have strong views’. ‘There is a privacy issue here…’ - exactly, the dealer deserves respect be paid their employee’s privacy - hence disconnecting a device that interferes with that right to their privacy. If I shared your contra opinion, and it was important to me to have that resolved, I would be writing to the dealer principal and asking for an in- writing response to your concern. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on, or if you decide not to follow that route. Kind regards, Gareth.

Steve. 2
LG-58 Posted December 15 Author Posted December 15 I do see that my beef is that i think they need my permission to disconnect it and i would like to see the policy document to have which spells out the reasons Also their attitude regarding this matter is very much take it or leave it this is what we do
Magnet Posted December 15 Posted December 15 I can only wish you well with this Leighton. Life’s experiences with me, have pointed me towards an acceptance that a ‘supposed problem’ is likely to be the worse thing that’s happening to you at the time, and you will find that once something more worrying comes along, you wonder why you were so hung up about the first issue! Still, only one person’s opinion. My earlier point re. Percy Verance was that if you are going to take action, then make a determined, and more to the point, constant effort to sort it , rather than accept the ‘they are not coming back to me’ principle. Anyway, good luck with the outcome. Kind regards, Gareth.
