Gkinghorn Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 As the title says ... Wife's 2005 A3 2.0TDI seems to make a crunching noise at front when going over particularly bad speed bumps .. Normally there's nothing to hear but noticeable the rear of the caris silent on the same bump .. I am somewhat concerned about the front suspension obviously but hard to know if its serious or not without having someone see it and check it .. Seems to drive fine under normal road conditions.. Thoughts?
Steve Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Hi and welcome to the Audi Owners Club It could be a number of things such as Strut mount, Bushes, Worn ball joint. Sometimes can get a lot of wear if the car gets mounted on kerbs a lot. It is going to need to be looked at although it may not be dangerous, quite suprising how much you can give a suspension before it gives in. But the problem can get wrse and cost more later on.
Gkinghorn Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Hi Steve - Well the damage i think happens at the wifes college where their 'speed bumps' are more like small hills with numerous scrapes on top where the slightly lower cars have scoured the top of them ..so not exactly small. Given she goes over maybe 10 of these 5 days a week ! Is it the sort of thing , on a car of this age , best looked at by an Indie specialst or just the local (good) garage versus the franchise dealer? Thanks for the response..
