I had the oil changed last week, 8 qts. Today the oil-overfull light came on. What's up with that and do I need to drain a little out to get the warning light to go off? Much appreiciate any input. (2019 Audi A6 quattro 3.0)

I don't know how much oil the engine is supposed to contain, but 8 quarts, which is two gallons or 9 litres, sounds far too much. Where did you get the specification of 8 quarts? Quarts is a measure only used the USA which has a smaller gallon than we do.

Hi James

When I had my A6 I think the sump capacity was about 8 litres not quarts.

A 2019 Audi A6 3.0L 24V Turbocharged engine has an oil capacity of 7.6 liters, or 8 quarts, with a filter. The recommended oil viscosity is SAE 0W20, and it should meet the VW 508 00 or ACEA C5 quality specifications. The recommended oil change interval is 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first.

Online and at the changing station.

There's your answer: 8 quarts in the UK is 9.1 litres, not 7.6 litres, so you have added 1.5 litres too much. An odd thing to do because oil is sold here in litres, not quarts or pints or gallons, so you must have done some conversion when buying it.

Thanks James,

Without Googling ‘Fenton’, could you confirm you are located in USA ?
Are you taking your ‘engine oil, inc. filter’ capacity direct from your owner’s handbook?
Did you remove the oil by draining or by suction?
Do you have a dip stick as opposed to just a digital oil level indicator?
For either, what are the indicated current levels?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

8 liters is 8.45 quarts so that can't be right.

US quarts, yes. Imperial quarts, no. So tell us how much you have added in litres. Are you in the USA?
