Tricky01 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I took my A6 2016 2.0 diesel to local non main dealer Audi specialist complaining of no heating or aircon (issue may or may not be related). I can hear the blower fan clearly running and occasionally can feel a low blowing air flow from the blowers, luke warm at best. Even with temp moved to high and blower on full. They spent 5 hours looking at it (apparently) and charged me a 1hr investigation. The couldn't diagnose and have suggested main dealer attention. Anyone come across this issue please and anything worth a try before I spend 000's with Audi? Here was the report from the garage: Carried out code scan - Found fault for basic settings not complete and foot well air direction motor to be faulty. Removed panels on dashboard revealing the side of the heater box, all appeared to be working and moving, checked heater matrix - hot on both sides - suggests working ok. Believe fault is internal of heater box and do not belive foot well motor to be causing lack of heat, attempted to carry out basic settings - unable to as it was detecting fault with foot well flap motor. Recommend main dealer attention. Any help appreciated?
cliffcoggin Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Search the recent history of this forum and you will find several reports of the heater matrix becoming blocked. As far as I recall they involved disintegrating bags of silica gel. Stevey Y knows more of this than I do. 1

Hi, the report sounds like we can't be bothered, at no point did they remove the outlet pipe from the matrix [easy] to check the physical flow as often this is restricted by the Silica bag debris from the bag in the expansion tank which has probably ruptured and allowed the crystals in to the water system, if you think about it the fan works and both pipes to the matrix are hot therefore it has to be a water flow issue, try and find a independent garage that can flush the system for you that would be a good start, as for the basic settings bit I dont get that as if there is a fault inside the airbag it should give you a P code with a description of a mechanical or electrical fault. Steve.
Steve Q Posted December 13 Posted December 13 As cliff has said, it could be the heater matrix. Is the engine getting up to temperature?

Steve. Thanks Stevey, yes I do feel let down by the garage, supposedly Audi specialists, I'm going to see if I can find an alternative to do the flush. How difficult is this if I attempt to do it myself or is that not recommended? I think the settings issues was that it showed an issue with 'Foot well flap motor' and couldn't re-set settings without it fixed first, but didn't think the motor is the issue. will try the flush route, if that doesn't work maybe i get a replacement matrix. I assume the pollen filter on its own couldn't cause this? Not sure when it was last replaced to be honest

Not sure when it was last replaced to be honest Hi the pollen filter has no part in this although if it has not been changed this will help your cause, if your not to sure about the flushing bit its fairly easy but you will need a high pressure hose and a good working knowledge of the flow direction, mine was done with a jet wash after which the expansion tank cap was removed and we back flushed the block so what there was left of the crystals from the Silica bag erupted out of there.
