1st time Audi Posted Friday at 02:41 PM Posted Friday at 02:41 PM Hello, I am a first time Audi owner and my soft top needs to be cleaned and waterproofed. I need either a valet or detailing and I wondered if anyone can recommend a mobile company based in Nottingham please? Thank you.
Magnet Posted Saturday at 03:20 PM Posted Saturday at 03:20 PM Welcome Christine, thanks for joining, and apologies for the late response. Could you let us know what sort of condition the roof is in on your 13 year of car, and is the eventual waterproofing required because it’s become rather porous, or will this be simply a maintenance task to avoid further issues. If you were to be given advice on how to do it, would you be confident you could DIY it, or are you really set on getting someone to do it for you? Apologies for further questions, but is it really important that whoever does it for you, has to come to your premises? Pending answers, it would be well worth doing a Google search for regional classic car clubs in your area. Perhaps you could back to us with some more detail. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Same with you Steve.
1st time Audi Posted Saturday at 03:54 PM Author Posted Saturday at 03:54 PM Hello Gareth, Thank you for your message and for the questions, I appreciate you trying to understand more about my soft top. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself. My garage recommended that my roof desperately needs a clean and waterproofing. He said I need a valet or detailing. He cannot do this himself and he said I need a company who specialises in this area. Googling has shown some results, with varying degrees of reviews... so I thought I would try here 1st and see if word of mouth could work! If you know anyone you can recommend, this would be helpful. No worries if not. Thank you for your response. BW, Chris.
Magnet Posted Sunday at 08:29 AM Posted Sunday at 08:29 AM Thanks Christine, The reason I mentioned to search out local classic car clubs is because there should be knowledge there of people who will do this. When your garage says it ‘desperately needs… ‘ is it visually mouldy, tatty or what? Kind regards, Gareth.
1st time Audi Posted Sunday at 10:03 AM Author Posted Sunday at 10:03 AM Morning Gareth, This is a good idea and I will seek out local classic car clubs and see who can share what information with me. My car is ad-hoc leaking behind the drivers seat. Seals are clear and my garage suspects that the build up of mould etc... isn't allowing the water to move off down the sides, but rather into the car. They said the waterproofing is no longer there either, so this needs to be reapplied. I don't have a garage / undercover area for my car, so I need this to be sorted as soon as poss in January. Thank you. 1
gsmdo Posted Sunday at 07:07 PM Posted Sunday at 07:07 PM (edited) The chap that valets my A4 convertible recommends Gtechniq convertible roof cleaner. This is a two-step process - a cleaner and then a sealant. He treated my car's top with it a couple of years ago, and it came up like new and really repels water. I'll try to put a couple of videos showing the water repellence... OK - I give up - trying to embed a video here is clearly beyond me...🤦♂️ Edited Sunday at 07:15 PM by gsmdo
