Hi guys

My A4 B7 2.0tfsi quattro is running between 65 and 70 degrees.
I think the fans are permanently running but I could be wrong.
I have looked at changing the thermostat which looks like a big job. Is there a thermostat for the fans that could be a problem?

Any ideas please.

Thanks

Hi there is only the coolant temperature sensor in the block not sure where , that would kick the fans in, if its both fans the control unit on the fan pack is probably faulty, easy test disconnect the fan control unit and take it for a drive and see if the temperature goes up to 90 degrees.

I now don’t think it’s the fans. So must be the thermostat.
I will get someone to look at it after Christmas.

I ran it a short distance this morning and the fans didn’t come on.
So I was thinking the only other thing is the thermostat. Unless the fans are coming on but too soon. They certainly aren’t on all the time as I first thought.
After Christmas I will try your suggestion of disconnecting the fans and see what happens.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The fans will usually come on and off if you have AC switched on to cool the condensor regardless of engine temp, from memory I think it’s a serpentine belt off and alternator moved out the way depending on exact engine layout to change the thermostat. If you haven’t already done so it’s a good opportunity to change the alternator pulley as they are known for failing with age

Hi

Thanks gor replying.
I do usually drive with my aircon running.
I have a favourite mechanic I use. I will take it to him in the new year and see what he thinks.
I no longer suspect the fans as much as the thermostat.
