Sedatev8 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Hi all ! My 2015 A5 tdi s-line has developed a grinding noise / feel in the steering. My son used the car and reported that when he got in the steering lock didn't come off as usual but after a yank on the wheel it unlocked, since then we have the grinding noise / feel, has anyone seen this before? is there a way to remove the lock and lubricate perhaps? any other suggestions? Thanks in advance Lee
cliffcoggin Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 He did not unlock it he broke it, so it's only right that he pays for a new one.
Steve Q Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Does sound like the steering lock has been broken.
Sedatev8 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Thanks for the answers guys ! Update The lock is not the issue, the rack boot from the near side has came off and the dirt / salt has made the bearing fail. Has anyone replaced that standard looking bearing? or do I need to replace the rack? Are there any trusted experts in the York area? Its a 2015 with the electronic PAS TIA Lee
Steve Q Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hopefully the bearing can be replaced as a new rack will cost a fortune! Either of these any good: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186714100678?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Kkiwt_joQDG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=IE07kO4STZy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/repair-kit-steering-gear-10702/audi/a5
