DaveOL89 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I’m not sure if this video picks it up well, but there is a noise on cold start up (worse the colder it is) to me it sounds like a pulley/bearing and I’m leaning towards the alternator. battery is 66% charged and charging at I think 13.6v but can double check. whats your thoughts please? Steve Q Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Not sure on your engine but if it's the 3.0tdi it's known for timing chain issues.

Your alternator works harder then battery is low (after cold start) and because of it makes this sound. Easiest way is to take off belt and turn every pulley/bearing and alternator by hand, most of the time you can hear it 1
