When travellling back past Exeter on saturday in heavy rain and spray, the gearbox started to non function and some displays on the instruments disappeared. We limped home to Brixham, but on sunday morning it would not start, called the AA and he, although was helpful, could not help and he lead the diagnostics to a fault in the gearbox, such that it was not selecting either P or N electronicsally has it would not start. I am a pensioner, love my car, and have various hospital appiontments in Bristol which i can't get to - some 2hrs away by car. What can i do please??? Regards Steve.
steve Leonard Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:07 PM Soory .. Not starting, engine not turning over.
cliffcoggin Posted yesterday at 02:15 PM Posted yesterday at 02:15 PM The first step should be to get it plugged into a diagnostic machine and let us know the results.
steve Leonard Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago Hi, the AA person who came on sunday morning was very helpful, but he tried to review any errors, he errrr'd on the fact that the wet road spray had taken out the sensor in the auto box to identify the gear selector was in either P or N. Hence, when you have the wipers going, and the gear leaver in P, when you turn the ignition key the wiper stop as i guess they would do on a normal car? Evidently there is a multi core connector near the gear box and this be really wet???? How ever the leave does move and when it is in P the wheels are locked, but in N the car can be moved. Unfortunately as I can't drive it i can't get my local friendly garage to look at any diagnotics. Regards Steve.
cliffcoggin Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Well if your local friendly garage will not come to you, find another that will. I suggest an independant VAG garage rather than an Audi dealer. There are also various mobile mechanics who claim to fix anything, but I don't know how good they actually are, hence my suggestion of a specialist.
steve Leonard Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago Hi, Withing the forum can anybody suggest the person to conduct a site visit to plug there diagnotic device into the car. I live in Brixham Devon, does anybody know of such a person near by as the nearest garage i reviewed was some 28miles away. Thank you.
