I have a 140 Tdi with BLB engine it has been fully serviced by Audi and has 100000 miles on the clock it gets a Audi service once a year and i change the oil and filter every in between times. I have heard some pretty bad stories about the oil pumps i have spoken to a few people and they say if you use good oil and change it regularly you lessen the chances of it failing is this so.

Yes. Using good oil, filtering and changing improves the chances for any pump no matter what brand. It doesn't mean that it definitely won't per say but if it does it shouldn't be so catastrophic.

Good oil should help but it might be ideal to get the balancer shaft module replaced and converted to spur drive, as this will prevent you getting caught out and having to replace the turbo/vacuum pump etc if the unit did fail.
