Hi all. Our front passenger door sometimes will not open from outside

It locks fine with central locking

It opens from inside

Windows work fine

Just sometimes when unlocking the car it won't open when using the outside door

Then sometimes it's works fine !

Anyone have experience of this

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

I believe the mechanical linkage from door handle to lock is defective. You will need to remove the door card to get access to it.

Thanks pal. Going to ask a silly question. What you mention regarding mechanical linkage. Is this unit/part I can replace if so what would it called?

If it's something else could you advise please.

Again thanks for the help much appreciated

I have no idea as I have never seen inside a A6 door. It might be rod, it might be a cable. Have a look online for specific guidance.

I have exactly the same problem, started yesterday. Looked on youtube but haven’t found an entry there yet that gives me confidence to tackle it.

Thanks alpha omega.

On mine the lock is definitely making a noise when triggered by the key buttons, so maybe it's something inside the lock itself that's failed.

Anyway I'll put up with it for now until the weather warms up....!

Majority of modern audis use a cable that connects the handle to the mechanism. I would lean towards the solanoid inside the lock mechanism starting to fail. They usually still make a noise but don’t have enough power to throw the internal lever. Unless deadlocked or child locks on the inner handle will always unlock the car as it’s a mechanical connection. From memory it  Should need pulled twice if door is still locked. Once if door is unlocked

Audi a6 c7 front door lock, cable with black grommet and grey foam sleeve is to inner handle and other cable goes to outer handle.

Thanks for that. Symptoms point to the outer handle cable broken, hope it’s that simple!
