Overlander Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I had a brake tube leak, its now been repaired. Most of the brake fluid had leaked out of the braking system. I refilled the brake fluid reservoir and in sequence starting from the wheel at the furthest pointfrom the reservoir tried to bleed the system. Ive tried to do this a few times, I get fluid at the nipples but the brake peddle remains completley spongey and the brakes are absolutley ineffective. I would be grateful for advice.
spartacus 68 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I've got a Draper bleeder, but to be honest a two person approach (one pressing the brake) is better than vacuum system. Get plenty DOT 4 brake fluid, it's relatively inexpensive. Also make sure the silicone tube that you use from the bleed nipple to the used fluid reservoir is on tight. Top up the brake fluid reservoir regularly so as not to draw in more air. Use a proper brake nipple spanner, so there's no mucking about when closing off. You're right - start at the caliper furthest from brake fluid reservoir. Regardless if you're not seeing bubbles, press brakes around 15-20 times, then close off, move to next wheel and repeat. Double check brake hoses too. It they have been clamped for any reason they may have collapsed or deteriorated. Running the car will pressurise the system - so I would use that approach too.
LarHal Posted January 25 Posted January 25 If you have emptied the system you will need to do a pressure bleed and cycle the ABS pump with VCDS. that is the only way you can remove all theair. I purchased a pressure bkeader from Eba and it workes the charm bleeding brakes. Start the bleed with the cylender farthest away from the master ctlender., LR, RR, LF, RF and dont forhet your clutch slave cylender if it has a manual transmission. 2
cliffcoggin Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Ma. Was the information in the replies of any use to you?
LarHal Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Hi Cliff, Is not the way it happens that someone reaches out for help and dosent respond?

Both common courtesy and the forum rules require some sort of aknowledgement from the questionner to responses he has received. In this case Ma has not even looked at the forum since posting his question. 1

LarHal Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Well, we all want to help a fellow Audi owner, May be we put a bate question out and wait for an answer, Like in this instance, What type brake fluid did you use? If we get no answer then we know that they are just a user and not part of the family. I am on 3 other Audi Forums because information is the key to success. I have learned alot and taught some. I guess some people are just users. 1
cliffcoggin Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Larry. All I'll say at the moment is that wheels are in motion.
