Hi, I've managed to smash my rear screen (don't ask how, its mad). I've been told that the whole roof will need to be replaced, costing at least £5k! Does anyone know if this is definitely the case? If it is the case, would a specialist convertible company be able to do it? I live in York so has anyone any recommendations for such a company? Much appreciate any help. Cheers.

Have you tried eBay for a second hand window or roof?

The window is only bonded and stitched in place.

Have you spoken to your insurance company regarding window replacement?

I'm sure a specialist trimmer can fix. If the rest of the roof is in good condition, then you would need to source glass and have it glued in. They will likely need the car for a couple of days. There are a few second hand convertible units I've seen, but to be honest they have grubby headliners, and you've no idea if the mechanical side works give these parts are pretty niche anyway and how long they have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Double check against here: https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/audi/RDW/A3CA/778/8/871/871000

From what I can see - replacement glass won't be available from Audi - but you might be able to obtain via Saint Gobain/Pilkington who produce glass units for manufacturers. It will have integral antenna (GPS/radio), green tint, heated, etc.

Read a couple of threads where Bolton Interiors were mentioned. Worth a call.

Dear SteveQ and Spartacus, many thanks indeed for your quick responses, I really appreciate them and your advice. I've emailed A S Pickering, a specialist roof repairer and they say it needs a complete roof replacement, but I'm not giving up yet, I don't wanna waste 5 grand on it if just the window can be replaced. I spoke with the insurance company yesterday and I'm really annoyed because when you enter your reg for a quote it comes up Audi A3 Cabriolet. But there was nothing to sat windscreens aren't covered on convertibles! It's in the small print and you only see this once you have committed to buying the insurance! So I'm gonna pursue this as well, maybe with the insurance ombudsman...probably not worth it but gives me something to do. Cheers for your help guys. Pete

Hi guys, FYI I've contacted Bolton Interiors and they're the only company in the UK that fits only the glass! What a find and a massive saving, assuming all goes ok. I can't thank you enough for your info and advice, cheers.
