changed oil then this happened

hi all, did an oil change today...then went to reset the oil service light (which changed eventually) then lost all my radio stations(all mixed up) and now my media player wont accept a disc....it says contact audi(see pic)....any ideas.... not intelligent enough to know how use a snap on code reader to know which buttons to use....anyone else had this experience.thanks

went to the car this morning was pleasantly surprised to see everything back to normal and working.(gremlins)聽馃榿

Bound to be unrelated. Stick a multi-meter on the battery to check it's not on the way out. Should be around 12.4v.

i will do that thanks.i must confess i never had the battery coded to this car.because the garage wanted to charge 拢100.also some have mentioned mine does not need coding.regards stephen

am i checking the battery right looking at the multimeter....without the car running its at 12.38....with the car running its at 14.76 regards stephen

All your voltage readings tell you is that the alternator is working and that there is not a short circuit in the battery. They tell you nothing about the condition of the battery in regard to sulphation of the electrodes or the formation of dendrites which cause loss of capacity and an inability to hold a charge. To do that requires equipment that most owners do not possess so I suggest you get it professionally tested.

As to coding, I have read (though I can not recall the source of the information,) that all VAG cars from 2008 require it, and some earlier models too. (My 2007 A3 did.) Uncoded new batteries will still work for a while though their lifespans will be shortened because of wrong charging rates.

Incidently loss of radio presets and false dash warnings are symptoms of a battery that is dying. See this post:
