Rizwan Patel Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Maybe a daft question but when changing steering wheel airbag does the replacement have to be the same model number ? If it's not then does it need coding If it does can it be done with the bag vcd software Thanks Picture is of the current airbag Is model number the top or bottom one. I'm guessing the one which is 8X0 880 201 C 6PS
Steve Q Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Ideally yes but more so you know it's compatible with the wheel and the electrical plug will be the same.
Sid2020 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 How different is the part number, most part numbers change over the years as parts get superseded but would usually be almost identical except maybe a letter difference.
Sid2020 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 And please have the battery disconnected for the sake of having a face left 1
Rizwan Patel Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Sorry for late update. Waiting on parts and been busy ect So got a new airbag. Turns out one in car was a wrong one. It had two connections. So the idiot who owned it before did the resistor hack to fool car. So now the new airbag is wrong too as we bought using the old ones model number which was wrong too. So..... Our question is As we don't have the original steering wheel airbag we don't know which is the part number So if we bought a Audi A6 c7 airbag with the CORRECT connectors ect what would we need to do for it work on the car Would it need coding if so would vcds have capacity to code a airbag with a different part number to work on our car Again thanks in advance See pictures picture one is what it SHOULD be like Picture 2 is what we bought on the original bag the harness was same as picture 1 however so on the connector were not connected and the two airbag yellow ones had a resistor mad tape over them
Sid2020 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Hard to tell with out actually having the car and airbag in front, airbags don’t typically need coding in just airbag modules so you should be fine, you get single stage and twin stage airbags so would need to make sure that you get the correct type for your car but likely to be only one, small black plug looks like horn ring
Rizwan Patel Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Thanks when search eBay for A6 c7 airbags it shows the ones as picture 1 above .so thinking of buying that.unless Besides eBay anyone here knows anyone for reliable parts ect. Thanks
Rizwan Patel Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 (edited) Ye sid the small black plug one is correct one . The two we have at present are wrong think they off a Audi A1 Edited February 15 by Rizwan Patel

Thanks Never came across a aftermarket airbag and never want to either, will be Audi or eBay for it I’d say
Rizwan Patel Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Thanks sorry my bad meant like any reliable sellers selling used ones like they are on eBay on these forums.
Pan Posted February 18 Posted February 18 If you have decent Audi main dealer nearby. Go in with your VIN and buy a fuel filter etc. and ask them if them about the airbag. I would see how much it is there too before going eBay.
