Hi all, some advise needed.

My fob key and spare both wont open / close the car doors / or start the engine - no lights wont make a sound

The key fob has the red light comming up when pressing buttons so not a battery issue with the key. I have tried taking the key out of the fob to lock doors but it wont work.

Any idea whats happening does my key need re-progamming or is this possible car issue

I am not clear if it is just the remote operation of the key that is faulty or if the metal key also does not operate the locks. Assuming you can get into the car, what happens when you switch the ignition on?

The key seems fine as when im pressing the buttons the red light is comming on.

When i put the key in the ignition nothing happens it wont turn over or start

I can get into the car as the door was open but cant lock it with they keys or the ignition wont start at all

I understand that the engine does not turn over, but are there are no ignition or other lights on the panel?

this is what i dread when i put the key in my audi a4 2011....as in your first post "no lights"....we know its a guessing game.could be a battery, faulty wiring, key fob problems.ignition barrel itself.steve Q has mentioned about getting hold of an auto electrician.with it been the weekend now.do you have AA or RAC home start ?

I would not be assuming the fob battery is serviceable based on the fact it simply illuminates the red light on the fob.
From the school of eliminating the simplest/ cheapest things first, I would be renewing the fob battery with a good quality new one before getting more involved.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Good point Gareth, and at less than a pound per fob battery that is the first thing I would do. That's why I asked Smaira if the metal key inserted in the lock barrel works, because that would eliminate any electronics from the problem. We have not had that clarification yet.

Guys thank you so much for your help / suggestions

It turns out my battery was dead ! After a jump start its all good again , ( women driver who dont know much about mechanical issues )

We take it it was the main battery rather than the fob battery -?
If so, you should replace the battery ASAP then get it coded to the car - unless something had been left on by mistake. If a want recommendations on what brand and where to buy then just let us know.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

No it is not good. The battery will have been damaged by being fully discharged and it will let you down again. As Gareth said, it's time for a new battery.
