Mark M. Posted yesterday at 03:21 PM Posted yesterday at 03:21 PM When I got my Q5, I was painfully aware of just how scratched and dented the centre trim was. Decided it was finally time to rip out the whole centre console so I could remove the offending trim. Replacing with a standard trim would just end up the same way, the carbon replacements are either too expensive or poor fitting so instead I used some alloy wheel repair filler to fill in all the dents and scratches. After a few hours to cure I got on with the boring job of sanding it down. Got some carbon fibre wrap and set to work. Took me forever to get to this stage but as it was my first attempt at wrapping I expected as much. Carefully put everything back together and here is the end result. Think it's turned out rather nicely聽馃槑 2 1
cliffcoggin Posted yesterday at 05:16 PM Posted yesterday at 05:16 PM Nice result Mark. Any idea how many hours of work it needed?
Mark M. Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago Cheers guys. 聽 Took about 30mins to get the console out, 5mins to fill the dents etc, 45min sanding, 1hr 30min to wrap it, 30mins to rebuild the car. Have to add on the curing time for the filler but if it was being done by someone who actually knows how to wrap it's a fairly quick and easy job. 聽 Now debating whether to do the door trims聽馃
spartacus 68 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Good job. 3M manufacture a wrap called 2080 BR120 brushed aluminum. That鈥檚 about as close as I鈥檝e seen or OE look. Edited 4 hours ago by spartacus 68
Mark M. Posted 57 minutes ago Author Posted 57 minutes ago Wasn't sure if I wanted to try and match the aluminium look or go completely different, after what I did today I'm glad I went with the carbon 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽
