my first post here so go gentle with me .

ok here we go

first thing was the passenger door wouldn't unlock plus mirror electrics not working . sorted that with replacement door module and had to code it in . that is all good and working now .

now the boot lid wont unlock with the fob and the boot switch on the boot . but unlocks with the key and also with vcds making me think the wires are ok . i fixed the reverse light when fixing the bad wires in the rubber tube at the boot lid .

the boot lock worked fine before

also the rear screen heater stopped working it lights the switch for 2 seconds then off . interior lights also not working with the door .

i can do a full scan and post it here if it helps .

here are the codes in red

looking at this some more 2 things stand out .one is the low voltage and the other the roof being as that can affect all the faults i need to fix . i will scan the roof module and look into it some more

ok replying to myself again

error code found in passenger door module .. 00830 no signal/comms convertible  top module j256. am guessing its a bad can wire or the roof module at fault .

Please don’t talk to yourself Peter!
With all electrical issues, take the cheapest route to component elimination, and get the battery efficiency tested, before investigating anything else.
Halfords stores will do that. Worth getting the alternator output checked at the same time.
Please let us know how you get on Peter.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

it was working fine before changing the door module and coding it in . have tried with engine running for ages then clearing codes . i wasn't getting the comms fault before so suspecting wires or roof module . tried the old door module back in and still same issues . all these things not working also lead me to the roof because its behaving as if the roof is down . no dash warning of that though . i will next fit the new window mech and calibrate the window just to rule that out . i will have it here tomorrow .

i can test the battery myself and the charging .

How are you going to test the battery Peter?

might use my battery tester unit . or just my multi-meter . i can check volt drop when cranking . either way it will tell me if its bad or not

Does your battery tested measure its cold cranking current Peter?

Of course, everything boils down to maki g your own decision on what you want todo.

it measures the voltage .if it goes below 11v i will know how good or bad it is . to measure that sort of current i would need a massive resistor so i could measure volts across it and calculate the current .

Exactly Peter - hence professional all- parameter testing is required to confirm/ refute battery overall efficiency with battery condition critical vehicles.

battery is least of my problems right now . i can use a charger for now for diagnosing .

what i cant understand is why when i query the passenger door module it gives me code 00830 no comms with roof module . i had to code in the door module to get the mirror and indicator in the mirror working . its since this time the boot stopped working and screen heater and the roof . it suggests to me a break in comms that goes through the door module . oh i cant see how to change to B in coding . no idea if needed or even possible .

maybe i simply need to calibrate the window ? cant do this until new mech is fitted .

the door module is an earlier one suffix B instead of D . i have had the door unplugged from a pillar just before i coded new module in .it was left overnight with lots of rain getting in the car but it was plenty wet inside before .

i can unlock the boot with vcds .

That's exactly what Gareth, and now I, are getting at. A simple voltage reading at minimal load will not reveal defects within the battery. That is why battery testers often use deep discharge equipment which simulate the 200 or more amps drawn by the starter motor.

That is not to say your battery is definitely defective, but until you prove otherwise I would regard it as suspect, because failing batteries are often the cause of unexpected electronic problems and errant error codes.

window calibration didn't help . have been trying all day to dry it out inside after punching holes in the rubber plugs in the floor . it was at least 3 inches deep under the carpet .

next up is get a wiring diagram for the roof modules and see if i can see activity on the can lines and see if it has the correct power to it . o only have bench scopes but should do it . if all looks right there its time to chance another module and see if it appears on the gateway .

on the plus side i took it for retest so its got an mot now .

i think the battery is ok it looks brand new . and its not showing as a fault with vcds . it got a bit low because i had the ignition on a long time when working on it .

problem now solved .. i feel such an idiot . but i cant remember touching that fuse for the roof never mind putting it in the wrong slot .

i think someone is playing silly games with me .

At least the problems sorted now Peter.
