Subject: 2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet (2.0 TDI 140 BHP) Soft Top Issue - Hydraulic Pump Suspected (Again!)

Hey everyone,

Hope you're all enjoying the (finally!) returning sunshine. Unfortunately, my 2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet's soft top has decided to throw a wrench in my plans.

Here's the situation:

Vehicle: 2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet 2.0L TDI (140 BHP)

Problem: Soft top operation failure.

History: I replaced the hydraulic pump with a refurbished unit from eBay about 2.5 years ago.

Current Symptoms:

When the ignition is turned on, the soft top dashboard indicator flashes yellow 10 times and then disappears.

The roof unlocks from the windshield, but the process stops there. No further movement.

Diagnostics:

I've used my OBD scanner, but it's not showing any fault codes.

I'm struggling to identify the correct ECU to connect to for the soft top system. I'm only able to access basic OBDII data.

What I've tried/noticed:

I know that the pump was replaced and that those eBay refurb units are not known for their long life.

I suspect the pump again, but I want to be sure before I go replacing it.

It could be a Sensor?

Questions for the community:

Does anyone have experience with similar soft top issues on this model?

Any tips on how to properly connect to the soft top ECU with an OBD scanner? What software do you recommend?

Are there any common failure points or troubleshooting steps I should be aware of?

Does anyone know what the flashing yellow light sequence means?

Is there a way to manually test the pump?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm eager to get my top working again and enjoy some top-down driving!

Thanks in advance,

Ray
