Hi guys I'm in the market for an Audi 80 cabriolet 2.6/2.8 and I.m wondering if there's any advice to be had on what to look for in regards to issues or problems that these cars have or are known for.

Thanks in advance

Service history is key. Ideally this should be full. Proof of cambelt and water pump changes should be clear otherwise you'll need to get it done.

Make sure all electrical items work as some parts are hard to come by now.

Make sure heater works consistently in power and temp from all vents as this could be a sign of a failing or blocked heater matrix.

Check condition of interior as some interior plastics are no longer available and rare to find second hand.

Welcome Sean, and thanks for joining.

I think you need to be realistic in your requirements when buying a 26 year old car. If it has some service history you will be lucky, if it has anything like a comprehensive history that would be exceptional.

How mechanically minded and experienced are you? Have you actually seen the car. Have you conducted an  MOT history on the car? Are you buying from the current owner, and if so, how long have they owned it? I’f buying from a dealer or classic car specialist, are you expecting to have a guarantee on the car?
Have you considered having the car inspected by a local-to-the-car Audi specialist?
Perhaps you can come back to us Sean.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Sorry Guys about the long delay me getting back to you all for your kind advice. Well I took on board all of your comments and suggestions I stumped for a 2.6 auto on a 99 plate in blue I bought off of an old chap who had owned the car for fifteen years and had it serviced every year he had own the car with invoices to back it up he had also had a brand new roof put on the car in 2017 wheels refurbished to,  he had the cam belt water pump done in 2015 and the car has covered  ten thousand miles in that time I've booked then car in for this to be done also fresh coolant thermostat and sender unit while it's drained down at the same time I'm have the gearbox oil and filter replaced. In the future I'll book it in for brake fluid refresh and anything else that crops up. Ps I forgot to mention when I went to view the the roof work fine I go out to the car on the first sunny day of my ownership all exited and it wouldn't move gutted is the word we'll may be a bit stronger booked in with a specialist beginning of may I've sussed how to get it up and down until it's repaired.

Kind regards Sean
