Hi all,

can any of you Audi owners/mechanics help with this issue??
my oil temp gage when driving will not move from 50° even when the engine is hot (see pic) this is also stopping any warm air come through the heaters!!

after driving when stationary the gage will go up but the heat slightly warm at best…..

I’ve had an oil service just done and the coolant is fresh and topped up….

any advice would be amazing!!

So, oil temperature is 73C but your water/coolant temperature gauge is sitting at just under 50C

Possibly thermostat failed/stuck in the open position 🤷‍♂️

Could be something as simple as replacing the coolant temperature sensor.

That's what I would change first before looking too deeply.

Faulty sensor would stop the gauge from working, but wouldn't stop hot air coming through the vents.

Thanks Mark,

Before investing in a new sensor or anything else, I would just take the car for a 5mile plus run and actually measure the coolant temperature - via. a cheap digital reader.
I would suspect the thermostat- but that’s an assumption until the running temperature is assessed.

To be clear, the warning message refers to oil temperature, while the guage shows coolant temperature.

It seems to me that the oil is cool because the engine is cool, so the real problem lies in your engine cooling system. Put that right and the oil temperature will sort itself out.

The most likely problem is a faulty thermostat, though there are other possible causes.
