Gerryang Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Hi. just started to get a intermittent smell of rubber burning, it lasts for about 5 secs then comes back after about 10-25 mins . Is it pollen filter because I can’t see anything in engine bay . It’s a 1.6d 2010 reg. Any ideas. thanks Gerry
Steve Q Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Definitely worth getting the car checked professionally including fuel lines etc. When I had something similar it was my bonnet sound deadening as it fell to bits.
Gerryang Posted Saturday at 09:36 PM Author Posted Saturday at 09:36 PM Thanks Steve. I have had a good look in engine bay but still cannot trace anything that causes the intermittent burning rubber smell. Will book it in garage and see if they can trace it.
Solution spartacus 68 Posted Sunday at 05:56 AM Solution Posted Sunday at 05:56 AM Check exhaust clamps, and flexi (if one is fitted) these can corrode and what you’re smelling is fumes from engine bay. Also auxilliary drive belt, a seized clutch drive pulley, etc. 1
cliffcoggin Posted Sunday at 09:18 AM Posted Sunday at 09:18 AM The stink of burning rubber often indicates a belt is slipping. 1
Gerryang Posted Sunday at 09:45 AM Author Posted Sunday at 09:45 AM Hi cliffcoggin thsnks for your answer will have a look if I can. I can’t hear any squealing and it’s only intermittent. I thought about it being a pulley bearing locking occasionally but that would cause squealing too I guess. It’s getting booked in to a mechanic asap
