Engine starts perfect every time, half a turn on the starter and its away. The problem is after 4 or 5 minutes driving, if I come to a junction it cuts out. Then it needs foot to the floor on the accelerator and turn the key until it rolls into life again. Itll do this a couple of times and after that its usually ok for the rest of the day. It seems to do it at the exact same distance each time too. If I drive to the garage and come back home, it cuts out at the same spot just as I round the corner at the top of the street, so its like it just has enough fuel for that distance.

Theres no warning lights on the dash and the local garage ran a diagnostic, but there was only one fault code for No2 glow plug, so I guess it must be something like fuel starvation.

Its had a new fuel filter about a year ago, Ive changed the fuel valve on top of the filter which made no difference. Ive just changed the EGR valve because the old one had a metal plate across the inlet where the exhaust gas comes in and the internal flap was just loose on the shaft, so exhaust gas was just coming in all the time. This also made no difference to the stalling.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the egr had been blanked off which would make me think it's been remapped to delete the egr from the cars system.

Could it be a cam sensor, crank sensor?

Any issues with the engine temperature?

Hi Steve,

Temp is perfect and ref the EGR, it was blanked off but it had the same fault before and after changing it. Could have been remapped though but it looked more of a bodge to me, possibly blanked it off because the flap inside was broken and didn't want to buy a new one.

I looked at the crankcase breather under the valve cover and that's ok.
There's no fault codes, so if it was a sensor it would show up?
I can hear the fuel pump priming, but maybe it could be the fuel filter under the car?
I've had a good look under the bonnet and no leaks or funny noises, so this might be elusive!

The reason why I say it might have been remapped after egr blank is because if it was just blanked off the car would throw up engine management light etc.

Ah ok. I'll have a look through the paperwork that came with it and see if it's mentioned. Thanks for explaining that!
