joe6 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Recently bought an edition 1. Has anyone fitted this as a diy fit. Particularly interested in hardwire routing through the car to the mmi. Pictures would be a bonus. Many thanks.

joe6 Posted Thursday at 08:54 AM Author Posted Thursday at 08:54 AM Wanted to save myself £300, hence the request
Sid2020 Posted yesterday at 10:35 PM Posted yesterday at 10:35 PM Most company’s include the coding in the cost of fitting the kit so the £300 starts to look abit better, I fitted a reverse camera to my b9 and have the equipment at my work to code it in but getting the parameters set correctly was a right pain
joe6 Posted 8 hours ago Author Posted 8 hours ago Thanks for your response. The camera kit I am thinking of buying has already been calibrated with the superimposed grid lines in the reverse view on the screen. I can do the coding and sdf acceptance using obd11 Pro. It is the cable routing and trim removal and refitting that makes me a bit nervous - so easy to break clips and crack trim.
Sid2020 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago If it’s your first time just buy a plastics trim tool kit as can’t go far wrong with them, check out any trims you are removing on eBay so you can get a idea of what holds them in place. I routed mine down the passenger side removing the trims along the floor and a and pillar. the main wiring harness will usually be tucked down the side of the inner sill panel behind the carpet so will be plenty of extra room for you loom, on mine it was lower seat cushion that needed removed for access to the canbus junction and wired into the passenger qter panel fuse box but mine is a b9 avant so yours might differ. Tricky part I found was the mmi connection as just a lot of faffing around getting to the connector i needed but in all honesty there’s nothing to be worried about, from memory the A3 tailgate handle you will be replacing with a camera version can be a pain to remove without losing a few lugs so just keep carm with it and it will eventually come out
spartacus 68 Posted 52 minutes ago Posted 52 minutes ago Not related to A3, but B9 A4. This is a great video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4u2n1RIkcY I’m planning to do this later this year on my A4 Allroad over a weekend. Have genuine camera, access to VCDS and know my way around trim removal after coming from a B8 where the panoramic sunroof was normally in bits. The other option, and something to consider is to consider buying access to ErWin. If specialised coding still required, and I’m hoping you don’t need it, then main dealer will have access to ODIS software. From memory, Audi main dealer wanted 8 hours labour to do this job. Good luck.
Sid2020 Posted 23 minutes ago Posted 23 minutes ago Think it took me a couple of hours but that’s what I do for a job, I would pop down the centre roof trim at the back to secure the wiring to the factory loom at the hinge. Il post a picture of the coding that got mine working properly eventually
