matwaite Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Just bought an Audi A4 1997 1.8 and when I start the car it has a ticking noise which goes when I rev upto around 1500-2000 rpm, when the engine is warm the ticking stays. Haven't really looked about the engine to know if its localized in 1 place. Not sure when the oil was last changed in the car, if anyone has any ideas then that would be great.
Audi Owners Club Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Could be the chain cam tensioner. Can be quite a common fault. 1

Trevor Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 definitely worth changing the engine oil for quality brand and of the correct grade/specs if in doubt
