Audi 80 Cabriolet Auto Gearbox Fault

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, my 1997 2.8 Auto can has a clicking noise from the gear lever when in neutral or park that disappears when you put your foot on the brake.

Any ideas what this is? I assumed it was some sort of sensor or switch at fault as you can move the gear lever without having you foot on the brake now!

Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks

First thing I would check would be the brake light switch (located below the pivot of the brake pedal) as these are relatively cheap and easy to replace.
