missjt Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I have a 57' A3 Automatic. Drives really well however when I have to idle stop ,say traffic lights, junction etc it will judder when pulling away like it can't select the right gear. it sits at 8-900 revs when idle . Also when in idle stop with N selected it surges forward and when reverse is selected it doesn't flow nicely often causing me to press accelerator which makes it snatch/go back to fast. All the above happens 80% of the time I have mentioned it to Audi and all they seem to want to do is investigate which could become costly...any ideas anyone...please.
James Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Jacky do you know which type of Auto box you have? DSG/multi-tronic etc?
missjt Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 How would I find out? at a guess I would say multitronic as it has the flippy gear change paddles on the steering wheel
James Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 You can still get paddles with DSG. First thing to try probably would be to get the oil and filter changed on the gear box. Have you thought about letting a specialist have a look at it?
missjt Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 looked @ last service done at AUDI dealer yeovil at 46'500 miles (now done 52'000) and the gearbox is an S tronic (hope this helps ) they changed filter and oil and could feel the judder when pulling away but no fault stored in the system when they carried a diagnostic test, so further investigation needed, of which obviously I do not want to pay out for trial and error if they have no indication of what the fault may be. It is an inconsistent fault and there are no hard and fast rules as to when it will occur tho it is more frequent than not and sometimes harsher than others
James Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 S-Tronic is basically DSG and generally the more reliable of the two. Sounds like it most likely would be a clutch/dual mass flywheel issue but the problem is the whole lot will have to come out anyway to look at it.
missjt Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Funnily enough decided to get a price from Audi to trade in this week as was considering a Q3 the salesman of the AUDI branch we use went straight to his pc where last details would be then took it out for a test drive where he spoke about a "judder" which would have been on the system anyway...this time tho a mechanic was sought who said it was either the mechatronic sensor (which seems highly likely as apparently this was a common fault in 2007-2009 s-tronic cars which in the USA led to a recall but not over here :/ ) and will set me back just over 2K...or.....it could be the gearbox for which I am looking at 4K...so either way seems I'm stuck with a juddery car which I will run into the ground now as its mostly the other half who moans about the judder...me I just put up with it...;)
James Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Oh dear :( I think I'd still be inclined to get a second opinion though?
missjt Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Oh dear :( I think I'd still be inclined to get a second opinion though? Well we got a new battery installed this week and it definitely has improved things don't know if it is connected but......
James Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Well we got a new battery installed this week and it definitely has improved things don't know if it is connected but...... How's it going now? Strange that you should mention battery but I don't think that will be related...
missjt Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 It is definitely pulling away more smoothly 75% of the time and when it doesn't it just seems to surge/throw forward into moving but no kangaroo hops, when the new battery was installed all the faults thrown up by local garage diagnostic machine were due to low voltage so they have been cleared...Audi tried to tell me my crankshaft sensor was failing and wanted £245 for the pleasure of replacing it!!! When audi put there diagnostic machine on there was no fault recorded concurrent to the juddering issue....Im wondering if the Audi/VW garage at Ilminster would be able to throw more light on this or there is one in Yeovil I am told?
James Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Yes there is the Yeovil Audi in Houndstone Business Park. It's always worth getting a second opinion :)
