slimxr6t Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Have an a4 b5 sedan 1.8 automatic that I purchased recently. I rang an audi dealer today and they informed me that my vin is special in some way as it starts with aaazzz not the regular wauzzz. Im just wondering if anyone know why my vin is not normal. thanks very much for all your help if you can shed some light on this for me
James Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 The first three letters usually indicate the country the car was manufactured in as well as the vehicle manufacturer and body style. - W is normally Germany I think. If you have the whole vin number you could put it through a vin decoder to work out what it means?
FrenchAvant Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Ist letter - Country of manufacture. W is Germany, as already stated. 2nd letter - Manufacturer. A is Audi 3rd letter - Vehicle type. U is passenger vehicle. All Audi passenger vehicles should therefore start with WAU as your dealer stated. Is the number the same in all the places it appears - engine bay, spare wheel well, service record booklet, registration document (V5C) etc.?
