Byr0n Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Hi, Brand new to the forum, this is my first post :) please bear with me, i do not own an audi nor have i ever owned one but i would like to change that. I currently own a petrol 3 series BMW (the dark side?) but i now want to venture into the diesel world, again i have never owned a diesel car (im 30) mainly because i have never needed to because of my travel arrangements but now i do a long 60 mile round commute everyday and a diesel would be much more beneficial. So, the reason i am not sticking with BMW is because the BMW diesel engines are shocking with endless issues such as swirl flaps and timing chain failures being the main culprits. The reason why i joined the forum was to ask the main question - does Audi have the same issues of reliability with diesel engines? I've currently got my eye on a Audi A3 2008 (1.9 TDi SE), now i have been told the Audi 1.9 diesel engines are very good, is this true? I dont have a clue so please be honest :) If this particular model is no good then please advise on an alternative diesel engine as im open to other Audi models, but my budget is no more then £7k. I appreciate my post is full of questions but i'm currently in a muddle on what to do and would appreciate it if anyone could clear my focus Thanks in advance :)
Byr0n Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Thanks for all the help guys, great forum
James Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Hi Byron, I think generally all modern diesels are not fantastic when it comes to reliability IF you don't do the mileage. The sort of mileage you are doing sounds OK though - what's that going to translate into per year? Make sure you avoid the multitronic auto box whatever you go for...
