remetom Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I noticed a leak from a coolant elbow joint on the driver side towards the rear of the engine, by battery compartment, looking for a part online or any reference from the repair manual that I don't have. Pictures attached so show leak and location. Any help or links would be appreciated Many thanks Tom
Trevor Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Hi Tom...welcome to the Forum I'm struggling to see from the picture as to where its actually leaking from but if its the rubber hose attached to the outlet from the alloy unit it may then only be a case of replacing the clip and the hose. Can you post up another picture of the hose and where it goes to. Cheers Trevor
remetom Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Hi Trevor, Thanks for the reply, I've attached a Video, hopefully this helps. Thanks again Video.MOV
Trevor Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I can't seem to open the Video...can you save it in some other format to upload?
Trevor Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Thanks, that worked fine I would in the first instance remove the hose clip and hose to see what is occurring in the joint. Maybe when you've cleaned it up to add some sealant when you put it back together (belt & braces!)
Busaneil Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Hi I now have this same problem did you manage to sort it, if so what route did you go thanks Neil
Magnet Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Hello Neil, The original poster joined over 4years ago and last visited the forum just 2 days after he joined. I might be worth trying to send him a PM in the hope of getting some response. Kind regards, Gareth.
Wenx Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Hi, I have a similar problem with a leak which seems to be from the same pipe. I have replaced it with a new (vac) pipe and i seem to still have the problem. I inspected the new pipe and it has some what got damaged with heat? here is the old pipe: I replaced it with a new pipe (part number 038 121 473) and it has got damaged by heat I think : I have wrapped an aluminium foil tape around the tear and fitted it back in but still have a leak that seems to be coming from there. here is a video of leak: leak.mp4 Also my 1.9TDI seems to be losing a lot of oil and the coolant level is going low. Any ideas or suggestions?
cliffcoggin Posted September 6 Posted September 6 What sort of hose clamp have you used? It looks like a mis-shapen piece of wire that is cutting into the rubber hose.
Wenx Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Standard clip that was with existing hose. Where its dripping from I have wrapped aluminium foil tape as I think the hose is melting where it touches metal.
cliffcoggin Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Nevertheless from the viewing angle of the video it looks as the clamp is cutting into the hose. Perhaps that's a false impression because I can not reconcile the long hose shown in the still pictures with what appears to be the short elbow in the video. Maybe that's just the perspective of the view. If it is a genuine Audi part it will have been made of a rubber that will withstand the temperature of its environment, however you mentioned it was vac pipe that you fitted which will have a different composition. Two other thoughts occur to me: 1/ I wonder if the degradation is caused by rubbing as the hose vibrates. Are any securing clips missing? 2/ Did you inspect and clean the stub of pipe that the hose fits over? Aluminium can corrode badly causing a poor seal between rubber and metal.
